England will win the world cup. This will happen for several reasons:

  • Wayne Rooney is the best player in the world at present
  • Portugal (Qtr final fixture) have some of their best players on red cards from their 2nd round match which will help gives us the edge in that match
  • OK, Brazil in the semis will be tough but doable.
  • Obviously we will face Germany in the final in a repeat clash 40 years down the line from the historic 1966 victory. Once again we will prevail.

Does that sound compelling? Well, we'll see!

In the meantime check out the BBC World Cup site - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2006/default.stm for excellent all round coverage and stats.

James, aren't you a bit biased?

Well, maybe a bit!
But really this is England's best shot in a long time. We havent been playing as well as we can though so we will really need to raise our game against Portugal on Saturday.
But overall we have a young and talented team with some real class players.

Off topic somewhat; I think this site has a great concept at its heart. It certainly has the edge on Kasamba and others due to the open, community approach. As it starts to get more traction I think it will become a first stop for many people.

I like it so much I'm writing a post on it on my new tech blog http://techconsider.blogspot.com ;-)
