Why those Chinese mobile portals earn so much money from SMS. I think SMS is sent from the phone, not required an external application (java or symbian apps) to send messages. So tell me, how can they get profits from SMS (the research I conducted and found out that 70% of those mobile portal's yearly profits are generated from SMS)?

Mobile content sites reguardless of what country they are from use SMS frequently to transport downloadable media content links. They are also frequently used for Subscription services as SMS short codes can be billed directly to the users phone bill, making the purchase easy. For example when you see on tv shows now "text the word VOTE to 99724 to cast your vote" Most of these services charge between $1 and $2 for the text. There is also the subscription method. (what you are asking about) This allows the content site to send a ringtone at a frequency of their choosing to the phone for a monthly recurring fee or a per text fee basis. You might want to look up information on Premium text services, or Premium SMS to find out more.
