A couple days ago, the shortcut to the Desktop on the Quick Launch Bar on my Windows XP laptop, started showing showing the Desktop on Win Explorer rather than taking me to the actual Desktop... which is the way it always worked before. Anybody knows why and how to return it to its original behavior?

Go get this utility and run it. You'll be good as new. As to why, harder to answer because I don't know what you were doing when the target status of the icon changed.
