I have never operated an e-bay store, so I don't know the issues that are specific to them.
However, I have done a fair amount of Search Engine Optimization work. If you want to rank well in the search engines you need to get links to your store that are on pages related to what you want to sell. For instance, if you are selling Metal & Pebble Cloth, you need links from other sites that are related to Metal & Pebble Cloth (or at least related to the search terms you expect people to use when finding Metal & Pebble Cloth)
There are a few ways you can go about this. First, you can search for related sites and approach the site owners about buying advertising space on their site with links to your site.
You can also go to services that will allow you to [buy ads](http://www.google.com/search?q=link+ads&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official) with links to your site:
The best way to advertise is to get bloggers excited about your product. If people like your product then they are likely to blog about it and include links for free!
