I'm not a bunny-man by any means but I think if we can think of this logically..

1. He needs food. If he's not used to being outside, there's a chance his instincts are dulled and will get hungry. Be sure to leave plenty of rabbit-food (not lettuce!) outside for him.
2. Since it is summer time (at least in America) the "warm place to sleep" is out of the question, but he may seek shelter from predetors and/or the elements (rain, snow, etc). Be sure this is availble to him.
3. Good ol' fashioned looking is another option, although one you've undoubtedly tried. You might try looking in and/or around nearby burrows, and warm, tight places such as sewer ducts and various pipes.

If you are not able to find your rabbit, I might suggest a cage for your next one. Or better yet, get something that has a strong sense of loyalty (see: dog) and will WANT to come back. :)
