I've just come from my manual '99 toyota corolla, which mysteriously won't start. No lights have been left on, and--except for yesterday--the car has been starting great since I bought in in June. Yesterday morning and today I turn the key and get nothing, no turn over, no clicks, just silence. Yesterday, the first time this happened, my car did eventually start, and started perfectly the rest of the day while I ran errands. In the morning, after I tried starting it several times, it made a weak attempt to turn over, then started on the next turn of the key. Today I haven't been as lucky. The weather has been colder than normal and yesterday we had some rain; I park on the street. Additionally, the previous owner may or may not have disengaged the clutch properly while driving. The floor mat tends to slide up and get in the way, which doesn't stop the car from shifting but does make it a little rougher. When I bought the car this factoid was never mentioned and its possible that the previous owner used to drive like that all the time. So, why won't my car start?
