i just bought a 2001 toyota carolla and i havnt had it a month. its been checked out by the dealer and everything is running fine. why then would the check engine light come on and stay on.

The 1996+ cars use obdII systems to check over cars vital parts, from your timing belt being off a notch to your gas cap isnt tight. the best idea is take your car to the closed autozone or advacned auto parts and they will check the code its free rather than a dealer which will charge you. they will tell you what is wrong and you can go to a garage and get it fixed. if there isnt a code set off and the light is on then it is either faulty wiring or the com;puter is junk.
