No one was able to answer Appleseed's question:

This question concerns gaming systems. In your opinion which of the following choices would be a better investment?

Should I invest into a newer console, such as an Xbox 360/PS3/Wii and stay on top of all the latest games featuring the latest technology, or should I purchase a Playstation 2 Silver Console for cheaper? ($129.00)

My reasoning behind the second option is that it's a lot cheaper than the other systems, and the best games for the PS2 would be around $20 because of the "Greatest Hits" selection?

Please provide feedback, thank you.

Gamers want to play the latest cutting edge stuff - period. Spending the money on an older ps2 is a bad investment in my opinion. In large part because its an investment into old technology which most gamers won't find much interest in, in the comming months. Lets also take into account that Sony will stop giving top notch attention to the ps2 when they will be in a all out brawl for supremecy against microsoft. So that means, big game budgets will be going into the new systems and all you can expect on the ps2 are mediocre ports of games.

Ps3 and xbox360 tout the ability to play games from their predecessors but to me that is a secondary factor in determining a system to purchase. Unless you find yourself in a constant state of gamer nostalgia, all this backward compatbility stuff is just not necessary. Most people will be looking towards the future next generation titles which will erase any ideas of wanting to put on grand turismo 4 and play around.

In the end , if you want a system thats fun and everyone in the family can play - get the wii. If you want a system that has graphics that make your jaws drop get either the 360 or ps3. Good luck on your decision.
