How often does your cousin act hyper? Does she act hyper to a point that it is disruptive to daily life? How old is your cousin? Does she have trouble focusing in school? If so, she may have a common learning disorder called ADHD. If you believe that to be so, try getting her tested by a psychologist for it. On the other hand studies show that there is no evidence that sugar and food coloring links to hyperactive behavior unless the person has hypoglycemia.(http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=pubmed&uid=8052458&cmd=showdetailview&indexed=google) However too much caffeine can also cause hyperactive behavior as well. Sometimes depending on age, children sometimes may act hyper simply for attention. So try cutting back on caffeinated beverages, give your cousin attention when he/she is doing something positive, and if nothing else works try researching ADHD and consider testing him/her for it.
