The sky is blue not for any other reason but the fact that the atmosphere composed of different gases create a form of a prism effect on the sky. As sunlight passes over the horizon and you get a full sunshine going the reflection of sunlight on the atmosphere starts bend white sunlight onto the blue side of the color spectrum and thus you get blue light.
